Preparation

Preparing for a Gastroscopy or Colonoscopy

Preparation for these tests is important and you will be contacted by the endoscopy team with detailed preparation instructions prior to your procedure.

Arriving at the Endoscopy Centre

Please go to The Princess Grace Hospital entrance at 42-52 Nottingham Place.

You will be greeted by our Endoscopy Co-ordinator, who will verify your personal details and preferred method of payment. An Endoscopy nurse will then prepare you for your procedure.

If you have any worries or questions at this stage don’t be afraid to ask. Staff will want you to be as relaxed and informed as possible before the test and will be happy to answer your queries. Your consultant will explain the test to you and will ask you to sign a consent form. This is to ensure that you fully understand the test and its implications.

Please tell the consultant or nurse if you have had any allergies or bad reactions to drugs.

Results of the test

Your consultant will normally be able to tell you the results of your test before you go home. However if a sample (biopsy) has been taken then you will be need to be seen a few days later. A report will be written and sent to you, your GP and any other consultants involved in your case.
