Bowel Cancer Screening
Screening for colorectal polyps and bowel cancers reduces deaths. A major study published in the Lancet in April 2010, suggests a single examination of the bowel using a flexible camera could cut bowel cancer deaths by up to 43 percent among people over 55.
Flexible Sigmoidoscopy
Like colonoscopy it allows direct examination of the large bowel, however sigmoidoscopy only visualises about 30 % of the colon, which means that it is quicker and the patient does not necessarily need sedation.
